The chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) resigned. This was announced by Alina Russu in a message posted on Facebook.
“It was not a simple decision, but one assumed and fully responsible. During the term of office, I honored my responsibilities and I respected the legal norm applied to ensure the citizens with the right to vote and the right to be elected”, said Alina Russu.
She did not specify the reasons of her resignation, but she understood that “interference in any component of the electoral process is incompatible with the free development of participatory democracy”, reads the message of the chairman of CEC.
Alina Russu will manage the institution until a new CEC president is appointed.
