Igor Dodon held a working meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevics, who is on a visit to the Republic of Moldova.
The parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral relations and noted an active dialogue between our countries for 27 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
The President expressed gratitude for the financial assistance provided to the Republic of Moldova by the Government of Latvia in the context of promoting reforms, including through bilateral projects, and also praised the continued activities of the Moldovan-Latvian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Industrial and Scientific cooperation.
“In this regard, I noted the activity of the economic agents of both countries, but at the same time pointed out that the volume of bilateral trade did not reflect the potential for cooperation, which must be fully realized.
In addition, I praised cooperation at the level of local public administrations. We have already signed 27 cooperation agreements, including 10 between the local authorities,” said Igor Dodon.
In addition, the internal political situation in the Republic of Moldova and the important stage through which our country is passing were also discussed.
“I noted that the Presidential Administration, together with the parliamentary majority and the Government, would continue to pursue a balanced foreign policy based on national interests and respecting the neutral status of the Republic of Moldova,” added the Head of State.
