President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, today, during an official ceremony held at the Presidency, offered the Commemorative Cross “Participant in the war in Afghanistan (1979-1989)” to a group of veterans who participated in the struggle within the limited contingent of the Soviet troops.
As TRIBUNA informs, in a post on a social networking site, Igor Dodon wrote that in the armed conflict in Afghanistan, which lasted nearly a decade, died about 15 thousand soldiers of Soviet Army including over 300 from the Republic Moldova.
“We must not forget the courageous actions of our citizens in Afghanistan, and the present and future generations must respect the heroes who participated in this war. I have expressed my gratitude and appreciation for the heroism and sacrifice they have shown in that hard struggle. And I wanted them health, well-being for many years, “Dodon wrote.
