Moldovan Democrats to demand that competent institutions work out code of conduct of parties in electoral campaign

The Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM) will submit to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) and Audiovisual Coordination Council (CCA) a letter, by which it will ask for the working out of a code of conduct for the parties due to participate in the parliamentary polls. The spokesman for PDM, Vitalie Gamurari, made statements to this effect today. Gamurari noted that the decision was taken after more deviations from the electoral legislation had been found out.

Gamurari said that a code of conduct would combat the deviations, as well as the unlawful acts committed by some competitors during the electoral campaigns. He specified that experts had discovered, even if the campaign has not started as yet, more irregularities committed by some political parties, among which the use of financial sources coming from outside the country.

“It is important that the elections be transparent, democratic and fair and we hope that the participants in the electoral campaign will sign this code and will observe it,” Gamurari said.

The parliamentary elections due on 24 February 2019 will be organized based on a mixed electoral campaign for the first time ever. Also, on the election day, a consultative referendum will be held on the cutting of the number of lawmakers from 101 to 61 and their recalling from office, if failing to fulfill the duties properly.
