Moldovan president criticized top court’s ruling on suspension from office

Head of State Igor Dodon has criticized the Constitutional Court’s decision to suspend him from office. The decision of CCM judges was taken today, after the president refused to promulgate five laws repeatedly voted by parliament.

“The Constitutional Court again decided to pass the parliament speaker and/or prime minister the right to enact certain laws, after I refused to sign a set of anti-popular laws adopted by the parliamentary majority leaving. I will not give up on any of these issues and I’m sure the people will support me in this case. After the parliamentary elections of 24 February 2019, all these laws will be canceled “, Dodon said.

Among the five laws is the document stipulating that the land of the Republican Stadium will become the property of the United States of America, the celebration of Europe Day on 9 May, the promulgation of the new Audiovisual Code and the law on the General Carabineer Inspectorate.

According to the court’s decision, the documents may be promulgated by speaker Andrian Candu or Premier Pavel Filip.

This is the fifth time, when the court has ruled for the suspension of the president.
