Moldovan parliament speaker meets European Parliament's delegation

Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu today had a meeting with the a delegation of European MPs of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Committee on Budgets, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

In the context of the forthcoming elections, at a request by the MEPs, Andrian Candu specified that the leadership would resort to the amendment of the Constitution, in order to guarantee the country’s European course.

”Some people speak, but we act and transform the European integration aspiration into a success project. We do not complain and do not criticize EU. The preconditions are important and necessary for a good organization of things and for successful results. Respectively, the decisions we take are not of the kind, I like it – I don’t like it. These are assumed decisions, depending on what the country needs and what people expect,” Andrian Candu said.

The parliament speaker made a presentation of the actions undertaken by the authorities to implement the commitments taken before EU and the Moldovan citizens. In particular, Andrian Candu referred to the structural reforms, justice reform, stabilization of the financial and banking sector, economic growth and increase of exports to EU, reducing bureaucracy, cooperation with the Gagauz autonomy, improvement of the media legislation, integrity and fighting corruption.

Touching upon the implementation of laws, the speaker noted that the parliamentary control had been and would remain priority for the parliament. Hearings, parliamentary control and newly the ex-post analysis are subjects of major importance for the MPs. At the same time, the Parliamentary Council for European Integration follows the fulfillment of the commitments of the Association Agreement and their implementation in time.

The delegation by the European Parliament pays a 2-6 April visit to Moldova, to assess the level of implementation of the Association Agreement with EU and efficiently monitor the use of the financial support on behalf of the European Union. The European lawmakers will report about the findings of the fact-collecting mission at the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Committee on Budgets. The delegation of the Committee on Foreign Affairs is led by Laima Liucija Andrikienė and the one of the Committee on Budgets – by Siegfried Muresan.
