The Parliament approved at its today meeting establishment of a special expropriation procedure, being needed for construction of natural gas transport pipeline on direction Ungheni – Chisinau. A draft law was voted by 62 MPs.

There will be expropriated about 4,600 landowners from Chisinau municipality, Straseni, Calarasi, Nisporeni and Ungheni districts, according to new amendments and by special procedure.

The procedure will be carried out concurrently with construction works of natural gas transport pipeline in direction of Ungheni – Chisinau. The draft law also provides for payment of compensation to real estate owners.

The document was elaborated in context of actions undertaken by the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure (MEI) as to facilitate construction of natural gas pipeline in direction Ungheni – Chisinau and aims strengthening Moldova’s energy security by diversifying sources of natural gas supply, an objective of great importance, established into Energy Strategy of Moldova (SEM) until 2030.
