PSRM: "A year ago the people elected the best candidate"

On November 13, 2016, the people of the Republic of Moldova regained the right to elect the president and chose the best candidate. This was the victory of the PSRM, which once again proved that it is the most influential party in Moldova, and its leader gets the greatest confidence from the citizens, is stated in the declaration of the Party of Socialists on the occasion of the first anniversary of Igor Dodon’s election for the post of Head of State.

“The past year showed that the choice of people was right. Igor Dodon, in the position of President of the Republic of Moldova, stopped many anti-popular laws of the government; managed to revive traditional relations of friendship and cooperation with our eastern partners; improved the situation with exports to the Russian Federation; solved some of the problems that our citizens working in Russia are facing; managed to restore the authority of the President of the Republic of Moldova and the people’s trust in this important state institution; and balance political situation in the Republic of Moldova – the President’s Office reacted every time to attempts to divide the society according to false and dangerous criteria that could complicate the internal situation in the country.

During this period, the foundations of important social and economic processes were laid, which will ensure the future of the Republic of Moldova. In particular, the implementation of an important project for equipping 300 sports grounds in the country’s settlements has been launched. Another project, implemented under the patronage of the First Lady of Galina Dodon, provides for the reconstruction of 100 kindergartens throughout the country. The President also announced the launch of another national project, which will open 300 enterprises in many localities, which will provide jobs for our citizens who today have to go abroad in search of a better life,” the declaration reads.

“We all witnessed the desperate attempts of the government to reduce the role of the Head of State in foreign policy, to force the President to promulgate anti-popular laws, to exclude him from the decision-making process to approve military contingents sending to the exercises, appointment of the defense minister, and block the work of the Supreme Council security – an extremely important working tool in the activities of the President of the Republic of Moldova, etc.

The government has done everything possible to reduce the powers of the Head of State, even if, logically, after returning to direct national elections of the President, on the contrary, his prerogatives should be increased. Moreover, the presidential initiative to hold a consultative referendum on September 24, 2017 was blocked. But what can be more democratic than a referendum, in which people can express their opinion!

In parallel we see mass attacks by the so-called pro-European opposition, which often went beyond the bounds of decency. Unreasonable accusations, personal attacks, provocations, manipulations were all used as working tools against the President of the Republic of Moldova,” the representatives of the Party of Socialists note.

Due to the crisis political situation in the Republic of Moldova, the PSRM announced its full support for the President and began collecting signatures in support of transition to the presidential form of government in the republic.

“Currently, this campaign is in full swing and will continue in 2018. As a result, we plan to collect about 1.5 million signatures of citizens with the right to vote in support of the presidential rule. Only in this way, President Igor Dodon will be able to solve the problems of the country! This is the only way for Moldova to have a future!”- said the PSRM.
