Inter-institutional platform to monitor investigation of bank fraud

Prime Minister Pavel Filip convened a meeting of the standing committee for monitoring cases of increased social interest, with the participation of Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The participants considered the bank fraud situation and exchanged views on the possibilities to boost inter-institutional cooperation in order to improve recovery of funds. In the context, the liquidators of the three banks under liquidation process have submitted information on asset recovery and difficulties they face in this process, including litigation in court. At the same time, the heads of the law enforcement bodies told about the progress made in the investigations.

Another topic was focused on the launch of an inter-institutional platform for monitoring and controlling the status of bank fraud investigation and recovery of fraudulent assets at national and international level (Kroll), in the context of the implementation of the action seen in the roadmap on the priority reform agenda, signed by the government and parliament on 5 July 2017.

Thus, the inter-institutional platform will be set up on the basis of the standing committee for monitoring cases of increased social interest, which will be part of parliament, government, National Bank of Moldova, Prosecutor General’s Office, National Anticorruption Center, National Commission for Financial Market and other institutions that will work together to effectively manage the consequences of bank fraud and asset recovery internally and externally.

The above-mentioned committee was set up at the initiative of the premier and represents a platform for discussion, meant to ensure the interaction between the state institutions to efficiently and operatively manage cases of increased social interest.
