Platform of Civil Society Council under President launched

The Platform of the Civil Society Council under the President was launched on June 13. This consists of 13 expert commissions in charge of different areas, such as reintegration, human rights, the mass media and the diaspora. The about 130 members will advise the President on the legislative proposals submitted to him for promulgation, IPN reports.

In a press conference after the Platform’s first meeting, President Igor Dodon said he is firmly convinced that the Platform will be an efficient instrument of cooperation between the presidential institution and civil society.

Among the constituted commissions are the commission on integrity and legal expertise, which will be led by lawyer Pavel Midrigan, the commission on constitutional reform and human rights, led by the ex-president of the Constitutional Court Dumitru Pulbere, the commission on health protection, headed by Eva Gudumac, and the commission on statehood strengthening and country reunification, led by Victor Stepaniuc etc.

Within a month, the chairpersons of the commissions must choose by ten members representing civil society who will be confirmed by the Head of State by presidential decree. The Council will be chaired by Igor Dodon, while a person from the President’s Office will be named as secretary.
