At today’s press conference, Vice Chairman of Shor’s Party – Marina Tauber informed that at the end of May the Shor Party sent an appeal to the European Parliament requesting to intervene in the situation concerning the unreasonable arrest of the President of the Party – Ilan Shor.
In the opinion of the authors of the appeal, in particular they noted that Ilan Shor “from the very first days actively contributed to the investigation and did not hide from this investigation. His testimony, frank confession and the data provided to the investigative authorities made it possible to make significant progress in this case and even detect the corruption component in the highest circles of political class in Moldova. He himself is the most interested person in the investigation of banking case. … He became the main victim – lost a serious business project, the bank was bankrupt and his reputation is undeservedly ruined”.
Representatives of the Shor Party also noted that the letter to the European Parliament became a compelled measure after one year of protest actions by supporters and members of the party, after dozens of lawyers’ requests for a change in the preventive measure and other actions aimed at ending the unfair treatment of the party leader and mayor of Orhei.
Marina Tauber reported that in a very short time the Party received the first reaction from the Members of the European Parliament. The Party received a copy of the letter of the European MP, Mr. Lorenzo Fontana. The originals of this letter were sent fromthe European Parliament to the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, the Government and the General Prosecutor’s Office. In his answer, the MEP, in particular, notes the inadmissibility of violating the civil and personal rights of the businessman, patron, political and public figure, Mr. Shor. He pays special attention to the fact that the arrest and restriction of freedom causes damage not only to the representative of the local government – the mayor of the city of Orhei, but also to the residents of Orhei, who are deprived of the possibility of direct contact with their mayor.
The MEP hopes that the situation will change for the better, and assures the Moldovan authorities that it will closely monitor its development. In particular, as a next step, the European member plans to hold special hearings in the European Parliament on the arrest of Ilan Shor and his civil and political rights.
Ilan Shor was arrested on June 22, 2016 in banking case and is still under house arrest, despite cooperation with the investigative authority and execution of all orders of the judicial authorities.
