Today, on March 27, the initiative group for the organization of the referendum on the resignation of Dorin Chirtoaca from the position of Chisinau general mayor filed an application for registration in the municipal court.

According to Ion Cheban, the head of the PSRM faction in the capital City Committee, in preparation for the referendum all formalities stipulated by the legislation will be observed. In favor of a referendum, a thousand pages of evidence and additional arguments are presented to the court – reports of the Accounts Chamber and internal audit bodies on violations committed at the mayoralty and its divisions, reports of the NAC.

“We are confident that by the end of this year Dorin Chirtoaca will resign. Next year early elections will be announced and citizens will be able to elect a mayor who will represent their interests,” Ion Cheban said.

The registration of the initiative group may take up to 1.5 months.

“We plan to begin collecting signatures by the end of May. We need about 60 thousand signatures, but we are sure that we will gather much more,” said the head of the Socialists’ faction in the Council.

The initiative group unites 466 people, including the members of the PSRM. The court must render a decision on this issue within five days.

Recall that on March 14, the head of the faction of the PSRM in the Municipal Council of Chisinau, Ion Cheban announced that the Party of Socialists would initiate a referendum on the resignation of Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca. And on March 25, the constituent assembly of the initiative group on referendum organization was held.

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, supported the initiative of the Socialists. The Head of State urged the courts to be guided when deciding whether to register the initiative of the group by the letter of the law, rather than personal or group interests.
