President Igor Dodon initiated the procedure for disputing the results of the contest whereby Eduard Harunjen was chosen as a candidate for prosecutor general for the reason that the Superior Council of Prosecutors violated the procedure and deadlines, IPN reports.

Igor Dodon invokes the fact that Eduard Harunjen couldn’t have applied for the post because the Law on the Prosecution Service bans persons who have served on the Superior Council of Prosecutors during the last six months from doing this.

“Even if the law stipulates that the prosecutors who form part of the Superior Council of Prosecutors were to be suspended from their posts, this wasn’t done and this casts doubt on their objectivity and impartiality for the simple reason that they were directly subordinate to Mister Eduard Harunjen,” the President says on his Facebook webpage.

According to Igor Dodon, an appropriate person should be chosen as prosecutor general and this post should be held in transparent conditions. “I will make all the legal efforts to achieve this objective,” said the President.

Eduard Harunjen was named prosecutor general by a decree signed by President Nicolae Timofti on December 8, 2016, one day after the Superior Council of Prosecutors chose him as the winner of the contest to fill the vacancy of prosecutor general.
