The Constitutional Court (CCM) today validated the results of the presidential elections.

The CCM session took place after all electoral litigations in courts had been exhausted.

At the meeting, the head of the Central Electoral Commission, Alina Russu, unveiled a report on the holding of the ballot.

Subsequently, the representative of Igor Dodon, MP of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Vladimir Turcanu said that the elections had taken place under the law, and there were no reasons to invalidate the polls.

For his part, the representative of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Sergiu Litvinenco, presented more infringements of the ballot and demanded that the Court cancels the results of the presidential elections. Among the infringements unveiled, there are: involvement of churches’ representatives in the electoral campaign, organized carriage of voters, multiple voting and non-exercising of the right to vote by Moldovan citizens staying abroad, because of the insufficient number of ballot papers meant for polling stations from abroad.

Following the CCM ruling, the new president, Igor Dodon, is to take oath before the parliament and the Court in 45 days after the polls at the latest.

The Moldovan president has a four-year mandate, exercised beginning with the date of taking oath.

The direct presidential polls’ runoff was held on 13 November 2016. According to CEC data, PSRM candidate Igor Dodon picked up 834,081 votes and his contender, PAS candidate Maia Sandu got 766,593 votes.
