Moldovan Socialists' leader submits subscription lists to electoral body

The leader of the Party of Socialists (PSRM), Igor Dodon, today submitted to the Central Election Commission (CEC) subscription lists with signatures collected in his support for presidential elections, due on 30 October 2016.

Dodon said that 25,000 out of the 500,000 signatures had been submitted to CEC. “I talked to people from over one hundred settlements, I saw citizens support us, and we are sure that they will vote for PSRM in the presidential elections. We believe we can win the election in the first round, if not, we rely to get victory in the runoff vote,” he said.

CEC deputy head Rodica Ciubotaru said that “within seven days, the commission is to verify the documents and to decide on registration of candidate in the electoral competition.”

So far, CEC registered four candidates for president position: Marian Lupu – Democratic Party, Mihai Ghimpu – Liberal Party, Iurie Leanca – European People’s Party of Moldova and Andrei Nastase – Dignity and Truth Platform Party.

CEC has registered 24 initiative groups for collecting signatures to support candidates for president position, which would present the documents and subscription lists with signatures till 29 September.
