Moldovan MPs' efforts to focus on parliamentary control, assessing laws' implementation during autumn session

Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu had a working meeting with heads of parliamentary commissions. They discussed priorities of autumn session of the parliament, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The speaker announced that the MPs’ efforts for the autumn session would focus on parliamentary control and assessing implementation of laws, in the context of priority reforms. Candu asked the heads of commissions to elaborate a calendar of parliamentary hearings in order to assess the implementation of laws adopted by the parliament. The speaker urged the heads to inform civil society and representatives of authorities about issues which would be subject to parliamentary hearings.

“During the autumn session, we will focus on parliamentary hearings and parliamentary control in everything related to the implementation of reforms, implementation of Association Agreement. I asked the heads of commissions to provide for a week the calendar of hearings and their sectors. We have initiated reforms in justice, economy and healthcare, therefore the commissions definitely have to work,” Candu said.

At the same time, the speaker noted that the parliamentary council for European integration would hold a meeting next week. The main topic will be related to a report of European Court of Auditors and use of foreign funds for Moldova’s development.

The speaker said that during the autumn session synchronization of agendas between parliament and government would take place, then a joint meeting between parliament and government would be convened. The government submitted to the parliament 32 laws, due to be considered and adopted as a priority in the autumn session. It is about the laws on strengthening financial banking system, reorganizing SIS, modernizing Customs Service and State Fiscal Service, various amendments and completions to the legislation for implementing the Association Agreement.

The parliament’s working agenda includes 372 draft laws. The first plenary session of parliament will take place in the following period, at the proposal of the standing bureau. The parliament convened in the autumn session starting from 1 September.
