At its meeting today, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) decided that during the new local elections and the local referendum scheduled for 1 November 2026, the provisions allowing voter identification through the digital version of the identity card or the citizen identity document of the Republic of Moldova, generated via the government digital identity wallet EVO (evo.gov.md), will not be applied, TRIBUNA reports.
The decision was adopted in the context of cybersecurity incidents affecting the state’s public digital services, with the aim of preventing potential risks associated with the use of digital identification mechanisms.
The CEC informs that, at the polls on 1 November 2026, voters will be required to present their identity documents in physical format to the polling station operator, in line with the procedures applied up to now.
At the same time, the CEC continues its dialogue with the e-Governance Agency regarding the future use of digital voter identification mechanisms in elections, once all security checks have been completed and the safety of the respective services has been fully confirmed.
