The security of the Republic of Moldova in the face of hybrid attacks, American support, and a greater presence of US companies in the country were the main topics discussed during a meeting between President Maia Sandu and Democratic Senator Gary Peters. The US Ambassador to Chisinau, Joseph Mark Burkhalter, also took part in the discussions, TRIBUNA reports.
The President highlighted American support for cybersecurity and energy security. With US funding, the Strășeni–Gutinaș power line will be built, completing the infrastructure needed to ensure a more secure energy system. The head of state thanked the US Congress for its continued support for the Republic of Moldova, provided by both the Republican and Democratic parties.
Maia Sandu called for increased investment by American companies in the energy, infrastructure, technology, and logistics sectors. The Republic of Moldova could also serve as a platform for US companies involved in Ukraine’s reconstruction.
This was the fifth US congressional delegation received by President Maia Sandu since the beginning of the year. In 2027, the Republic of Moldova and the United States will mark 35 years of diplomatic relations.
