Prime Minister Vasile Tofan met with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Moldova, Nazmiye Başaran. The officials discussed deepening Moldovan-Turkish relations and expanding cooperation, with a focus on new projects and investments, TRIBUNA reports.

The head of government highlighted Moldova’s interest in a more active Turkish economic and investment presence in the country. In this regard, the officials discussed opportunities for Turkish companies, with particular emphasis on new investments in the renewable energy sector.

To boost economic relations and bilateral dialogue, the officials discussed organizing a new meeting of the Moldovan-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation.

Economic relations between the two countries are growing. In the first six months of 2026, bilateral trade reached $638.7 million, almost 13% more than in the same period last year. Moldovan exports to Türkiye increased by 36%, reaching $260.6 million, while total bilateral trade exceeded $1.1 billion in 2025.

The officials also discussed cooperation in education, including the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Moldovan-Turkish College in Comrat, as well as initiatives to support the study of the Gagauz and Romanian languages in the autonomous region.

Referring to the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue focused on people’s concrete problems and needs, including economic development, job creation, and infrastructure.

In this context, Türkiye’s contribution to development projects in the autonomous region and to preserving Gagauz identity and language was acknowledged.
