Defence Minister: Moldova Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Partnership with NATO

Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatîi met with NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska, who is on an official visit to Chișinău, TRIBUNA reports.

During the meeting, the officials discussed developments in the regional security environment and priorities for the development of the Republic of Moldova’s defence sector.

The Moldovan official expressed appreciation for NATO’s continued support in modernizing and strengthening the country’s defence capabilities. Anatolie Nosatîi also highlighted the importance of deepening cooperation within the Partnership for Peace, which the Republic of Moldova joined 32 years ago.

The parties also addressed the main regional security challenges, including the impact of the war in Ukraine on the country’s development. Particular attention was paid to airspace violations, hybrid threats, cyberattacks, and disinformation campaigns. The officials discussed the need to strengthen defence capabilities and national resilience in the face of these challenges.

“The Republic of Moldova reaffirms its commitment to strengthening its partnership with NATO and continuing all joint defence programmes and initiatives in which we are involved. Our partners’ support is essential for developing a modern, mobile army capable of responding to current security challenges. Over the years, the North Atlantic Alliance has demonstrated openness and unwavering support for our defence reforms,” the Defence Minister stated.

The official also referred to the process of European Union integration, a strategic priority that ensures the development of the Republic of Moldova across multiple areas, while also providing a safer and more stable environment for its citizens.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Anatolie Nosatîi and Radmila Shekerinska reaffirmed the importance of continuing dialogue and cooperation in security and defence to advance democratic reforms and promote lasting security in the region.
