President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met with a group of Members of the European Parliament from the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D). The discussions focused on the next steps in Moldova’s accession process to the European Union, TRIBUNA reports.
The head of state thanked the European Parliament for its political support for the Republic of Moldova, including through resolutions adopted in support of the country’s European path.
Maia Sandu emphasized that Moldova continues to implement reforms and is advancing in its EU accession negotiations on a merit-based basis, ensuring that citizens can feel the benefits of closer ties with the EU even before accession. The discussions also covered the European Union’s preparations for enlargement and European support for strengthening Moldova’s security.
The delegation included Sven Mikser (Estonia), the European Parliament’s standing rapporteur for the Republic of Moldova; Kathleen Van Brempt (Belgium); Nacho Sánchez Amor (Spain); and Vasile Dîncu (Romania).
