Igor Grosu, President of the Parliament, strongly condemned the unauthorized violation of Moldova’s airspace, TRIBUNA reports.
The official said that a Russian drone exploded overnight less than 50 kilometers from Chișinău, along the Ivancea–Brănești route in Orhei district. According to official data, the unmanned aerial vehicle exploded after colliding with trees in a forest strip, creating a crater approximately 50 centimeters in diameter and around 30 centimeters deep.
Trees within a radius of approximately 30 meters were damaged by the blast, while traces consistent with thermal effects were also found. Preliminary findings indicate that the drone contained elements characteristic of the “Geran” type, equipped with a turbojet engine.
“Authorities responded promptly, and traffic was restricted while the site was being examined. Most importantly, no one was injured. We categorically condemn and will continue to condemn every illegal violation of our airspace. We cannot and must not normalize such incidents, especially when they are occurring increasingly close to our communities and our people.
I thank all the institutions that responded promptly. I also urge citizens to remain vigilant and follow the recommendations of the authorities,” Igor Grosu said.
