Today, Ambassador-designate Joseph Mark Burkhalter and Mrs. Gina Burkhalter received a warm welcome at U.S. Embassy Chisinau, greeted by staff with traditional Moldovan bread and salt.
In Moldovan culture, bread symbolizes shared prosperity, while salt represents enduring friendship and trust. These same values will define Ambassador-designate Burkhalter’s mandate as he seeks to build economic opportunities, strengthen regional security, and celebrate 35 years of U.S.-Moldova relations.
