Prime Minister Vasile Tofan attended the opening of the Reunion of Romanian National Theatres, which brings actors, directors and theatre companies from the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Ukraine to Chisinau. Until September 20, audiences will be able to watch 24 performances at 12 theatres across the capital, TRIBUNA reports.

The Prime Minister spoke about the role of theatre in society and the power of culture to bring people together and encourage discussion of important issues. Vasile Tofan also emphasized that the development of the cultural sector can generate not only artistic and social value, but also economic opportunities for the country.

The head of government encouraged the public to attend theatre performances and support the people contributing to the development of Moldova’s cultural life.

Referring to the participation of Ukrainian theatre companies, Tofan highlighted the determination of artists who continue to perform despite the conditions created by the war.

“As long as people go to the theatre, I believe that good will defeat evil, and culture will defeat barbarism,” Vasile Tofan said.

The Reunion of Romanian National Theatres has a history of 11 years, with the first edition held in September 2015.

This year’s edition will conclude on September 20 with the performance of “Caligula”, presented by the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theatre of Kyiv.
