TRIBUNA continues its project presenting political events that took place exactly one year ago. This time, we recall what happened on September 9, 2025.

Alexei Buzu’s Announcement

Alexei Buzu, Minister of Labour and Social Protection, took eight days of leave to campaign for the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS). He announced that he had informed election observers about this.

Alternative Bloc Conference

The Alternative Electoral Bloc launched its economic program at a press conference, presented by Gabriela Cuneva, a parliamentary candidate. The document, developed following consultations with citizens and specialists from various fields, outlined a national plan through 2030 based on the idea of justice for everyone.

PLDM Statement

The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM), in a statement, expressed deep disappointment with the decision issued by the Supreme Court of Justice on September 8, which declared its request for a review inadmissible.

According to the party, the Supreme Court had not only ignored the solid arguments presented but also maintained the effects of the September 2 decision that excluded PLDM from the electoral process for the parliamentary elections.

Foreign Ministry Announcement

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the electoral materials required for voting by correspondence had been prepared and sent to the four special polling stations established for this purpose.

The envelopes containing the ballots were to reach voters in 10 countries: the United States, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.

Irina Vlah’s Announcement

Irina Vlah, leader of the Republican Party “Heart of Moldova,” announced that she would challenge in court the decision of the Interinstitutional Supervisory Council to block her bank accounts.

In a video post, the politician said that “Heart of Moldova” had become the main target of the “yellow power.”

Court Decision

The Chisinau Court, Buiucani district seat, issued a conviction against the head of the Glodeni Territorial Office of the former “Șor” Political Party for knowingly accepting illegal financing of a political party from an organized criminal group, as an accomplice, on an ongoing basis.

The court sentenced her to five years and six months in prison and banned her for five years from holding leadership positions in political parties or their organizations, as well as from carrying out financial management or logistical organization activities within political formations and politically oriented associative entities.

Liberal Party Announcement

The Liberal Party announced that Vladimir Meleca, a resident of Krasnogorsk village, Grigoriopol district, chairman of the Liberal Party’s branch on the left bank of the Dniester and a candidate for Parliament in the September 28, 2025 elections, had been illegally detained that morning.

Liberals said he had been detained by four individuals who identified themselves as employees of the so-called MGB in Tiraspol (Ministry of State Security). Vladimir Meleca was released later that evening.

Reintegration Bureau Warning

The Reintegration Policies Bureau drew attention to the persistent difficulties faced by farmers in Dubasari district who own land located beyond the Camenca–Tiraspol road.

Access to these plots had previously been arranged through special mechanisms, but new barriers had been introduced in recent years, affecting the normal conduct of agricultural activities.

Maia Sandu’s Visit to Strasbourg

President Maia Sandu delivered a speech to the European Parliament’s plenary session, addressing the defense of democracies, Moldova’s resilience, and the major risks facing the country ahead of the September 28 parliamentary elections.

During her visit to Strasbourg, Maia Sandu also met with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, and leaders of the European political groups: the European People’s Party group, the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, Renew Europe, the European Conservatives and Reformists, and the Greens.

Maia Sandu Meets Alain Berset

President Maia Sandu met in Strasbourg with Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset.

The meeting took place in the context of preparations for the Republic of Moldova to assume the presidency of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers from November 2025 to May 2026.

Our Party’s Complaints

Our Party submitted several complaints to the competent authorities concerning alleged violations committed by representatives of PAS during the electoral campaign. The complaints concerned the following:

1. Minister Alexei Buzu was campaigning for PAS while holding public office and insulting voters;
2. a member of an electoral bureau was caught campaigning for PAS;
3. PAS electoral advertising had allegedly been illegally installed on private property in Anenii Noi.

Andrei Năstase’s Commitment

Independent parliamentary candidate Andrei Năstase announced one of his key electoral commitments: reducing the retirement age for women in the Republic of Moldova to 60.

Vasile Tarlev’s Messages

Vasile Tarlev, leader of the “Future of Moldova” Party, issued congratulatory messages to employees and veterans of the Intelligence and Security Service on State Security Workers’ Day, as well as to lawyers on Lawyers’ Day.

Tudor Ulianovschi’s Appeal

Tudor Ulianovschi, president of the European Social Democratic Party, issued an open appeal to former Democratic Party colleagues and to all center-left pro-European forces in the Republic of Moldova — political parties, opinion leaders, mayors, and local councilors — calling on them to unite under the PSDE umbrella.

Our Party’s Statement

Our Party strongly condemned what it described as “falsehoods and false accusations spread by PAS and its representatives.”

The statement followed a video message by PAS MP Radu Marian, who accused Our Party leader Renato Usatîi of referring to all Roma people as “thieves.”

“Moldoveni” Alliance Proposals

The “Moldoveni” Alliance presented a draft law aimed at ending the practice of hidden bank fees. These included fees for reviewing loan applications, loan administration, early repayment, and, in some cases, even closing a loan.

CEC Clarifications

The Central Electoral Commission drew public attention to a two-year-old video shared online by parliamentary candidate Ion Ceban, which contained false information about alleged irregularities in the ballot-counting process and insinuated that similar practices were planned for the 2025 parliamentary elections.

The CEC also informed voters that they could check online the accuracy of their electoral-roll information and details concerning their polling station.

The commission further announced that people who, on election day, September 28, 2025, would not be in the locality where they had their domicile or valid temporary residence could request a voting certificate from their polling station electoral bureau.

Socialists’ Meetings

PSRM President and leader of the Patriotic Bloc Igor Dodon, together with his colleagues, held electoral meetings in Criuleni and Dubasari districts, as well as at the Medical University.

Patriotic Bloc Conference

Candidates of the Patriotic Electoral Bloc (BEP), at a press conference, presented the main provisions of their electoral program in the social sector.

PSRM representative Alla Darovannaia said that the Patriotic Bloc’s team consisted of professionals with the knowledge and experience necessary to govern the country.

Prime Minister Meets Iwona Piórko

Prime Minister Dorin Recean met with the new Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, Iwona Piórko.

The officials discussed projects implemented with EU support that contributed to infrastructure development, strengthening energy security, and improving citizens’ quality of life.

Ceremony in Ankara

Oleg Serebrian, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to the Republic of Türkiye, presented his letters of credence to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during an official ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Ankara.

Education and Interior Ministries’ Plan

The Ministry of Education and Research and the Ministry of Internal Affairs initiated a joint action plan aimed at preventing violence in schools and creating a safe educational environment for students, teachers, and parents.

The document, approved by a joint order of the two ministries, was to be implemented throughout the academic year.

Government Clarifications

A new fake video created with the help of artificial intelligence and depicting Prime Minister Dorin Recean was circulating on Facebook and YouTube.

According to the authorities, the video had been promoted with paid advertising and was intended to spread false information about energy-sector tariffs.

Government spokesperson Daniel Vodă described the video as manipulative and urged citizens to always check whether officials’ video appearances were also published on the official channels of state institutions.

PAS’s Requests

The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) called on Renato Usatîi, leader of Our Party, to publicly apologize to Radu Marian.

PAS also asked the Council for the Prevention and Elimination of Discrimination and Ensuring Equality to take a position on what it described as incitement to interethnic hatred by the politician.

The reaction came after Renato Usatîi referred to Radu Marian’s ethnicity — Roma — in a comment.
