VIDEO// Alternativa Clinic is the first institution authorized and contracted by the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) to provide in vitro fertilization services in 2026

Alternativa Clinic, led by Professor Veaceslav Moșin, one of the pioneers of in vitro fertilization (IVF) in the Republic of Moldova, is the first provider authorized and contracted by CNAM to offer IVF services in 2026. The clinic has obtained authorization from the Transplant Agency to provide medically assisted reproduction services, valid for five years. In the first stage, CNAM has contracted 14 IVF procedures, financed through the mandatory health insurance fund.

Starting August 21, Alternativa Clinic is offering free consultations to people who want to find out whether they are eligible for the IVF Program through CNAM.

How to access the program

The patient must obtain a referral form from their family doctor or obstetrician-gynecologist. They can then choose a clinic themselves from among the providers authorized and contracted by CNAM.

At Alternativa Clinic, a specialist in infertility and assisted reproduction reviews the medical investigations, confirms the diagnosis, checks for possible contraindications, and determines eligibility. If all criteria are met, the clinic electronically submits the registration form to the Program coordinator at the Mother and Child Institute.

The program is intended for couples and single women who are citizens of the Republic of Moldova, diagnosed with infertility and insured under the mandatory health insurance system. Medical eligibility criteria include the woman being 40 years old or younger, having an adequate ovarian reserve, and meeting the medical conditions required for the procedure.

What IVF through CNAM covers

The program covers specialist consultations, ultrasound monitoring, sperm collection and preparation, oocyte retrieval, embryological procedures and fertilization, including ICSI when medically indicated, embryo transfer, and β-hCG testing to confirm pregnancy.

The program does not cover ovarian stimulation and pregnancy-support medications, PGT, or embryo freezing and thawing.

Veaceslav Moșin, founder and pioneer of IVF in Moldova

Alternativa Clinic is led by Professor Veaceslav Moșin, an obstetrician-gynecologist, Doctor Habilitatus in Medical Sciences and university professor, with more than 40 years of experience.

Moșin founded the first in vitro fertilization laboratory in the Republic of Moldova. In 1995, the country’s first IVF pregnancy was achieved, and in 1996, the first child conceived through this method was born. The professor is the author of more than 300 scientific publications and has completed international training programs, including at Johns Hopkins University and in reproductive medicine at the University of Geneva.

Alternativa Clinic has participated in the IVF Program financed through CNAM since 2024 and reports a cumulative pregnancy rate of approximately 50%. The clinic’s team also focuses on complex infertility cases, repeated implantation failures, and patients with previous unsuccessful IVF attempts.

Free consultations begin on August 21.
