World Bank-Supported Projects in the Republic of Moldova Discussed at Government

Projects implemented in the Republic of Moldova with the support of the World Bank, as well as the country’s development priorities for the coming period, were discussed by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and Ulrich Schmitt, World Bank Group Country Manager for Moldova, TRIBUNA reports.

The head of the Government expressed appreciation for the support provided by the World Bank to the Republic of Moldova and stressed the importance of making efficient use of available resources so that investments generate concrete results for people and the economy.

The interlocutors discussed continued cooperation in priority areas such as infrastructure development, energy resilience, digitalization, agriculture, and improving public services. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan reiterated the Government’s openness to maintaining constant dialogue and implementing measures that will help advance ongoing projects and launch new initiatives.

Currently, the World Bank Group’s active portfolio in the Republic of Moldova comprises 14 operations with a total value of €735.4 million: 11 investment projects, one Development Policy Operation (DPO), and two projects at an advanced stage of preparation. The projects cover areas such as energy and energy efficiency, water supply and sanitation, agriculture and irrigation, education, healthcare and rehabilitation services, small and medium-sized enterprise development, rural connectivity, and resilience building.

Over the entire period of cooperation with the World Bank, more than 45 operations worth approximately €1.6 billion have been implemented in the Republic of Moldova. Cooperation with the World Bank is currently carried out under the Country Partnership Framework for 2023–2027, while the World Bank has already begun preparing the Partnership Framework for the next period.
