President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu today met with Kürşad Zorlu, a member of the Turkish Parliament and Vice President of the ruling AK Party responsible for relations with Turkic states, who is visiting Chisinau, TRIBUNA reports.
The discussions focused on deepening bilateral relations. The sides noted the growth in trade, which has exceeded $1 billion, and discussed the potential for further expansion, as well as opportunities for Turkish companies in the Republic of Moldova, including major infrastructure and energy projects.
A separate part of the discussion focused on the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. Both sides expressed their commitment to the region’s development and emphasized the importance of free and fair elections in the autonomy, which would bring to office leaders who will work in the interests of the Gagauz community — promoting the region’s economic development and preserving the Gagauz language and culture.
The President appreciated Türkiye’s role in regional security and thanked the country for its friendly bilateral relations and for projects implemented in the Republic of Moldova, including in Gagauzia.
