Ion Ceban, Mayor General of Chișinău, reiterated that “education must not be an experiment for those in government — it is about our children”, TRIBUNA reports.

“I said this from the very beginning, and the teachers who voted against this so-called reform share the same opinion, as do the parents — the ‘Restart’ education reform does not address teachers’ salaries or excessive bureaucracy. It does not propose jobs or new places for students, nor does it provide investments in institutions, such as their construction or modernization. Its main purpose is to centralize schools under the control of the central authorities.

For what purpose? We want to see clear examples before we talk about all the promises people are hearing. The results in Chișinău are unique because over the past several years we have invested enormously and devoted ourselves to this sector.

We see education as a development perspective and an investment in the future of our children. Chișinău City Hall has invested more than 1.3 billion lei in education, created thousands of new places in schools and kindergartens, built and expanded institutions, modernized infrastructure, and improved the energy efficiency of buildings. We invest in extended-day programs, support families, and create new services and better conditions for teachers and children,” the mayor said.

Ion Ceban noted that there are also challenges, and that these have never been hidden.

“But we continue to work and stand alongside the people!” the capital’s mayor declared.

It is worth recalling that today, Education Minister Dan Perciun asked for the “Restart in Education” reform to be postponed for one year in Chișinău.
