TRIBUNA continues its project in which we present the political events that took place exactly one year ago. This time, we invite you to recall what happened on August 13, 2025.

Police Announcement

The National Police announced that, in recent months, the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, through cooperation between the National Police, ANRCETI, and the Intelligence and Security Service, had submitted official requests to block 443 TikTok channels (containing thousands of videos) involved in spreading disinformation affecting national security and social stability. In total, the 443 monitored TikTok channels had more than 1.2 million followers and over 4.5 million views.

Protest at the Ministry of Labor

Activists from the Republican Party “Heart of Moldova” held a protest at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. They accused Minister Alexei Buzu of promoting the anti-social policies of PAS and failing to fulfill his direct responsibilities to protect citizens in difficult circumstances. The protesters symbolically presented the minister, on behalf of citizens, with a “certificate of incapacity.”

Announcement by the “NOI” Party

In a statement, the political party “NOI – New Historical Option” noted that, after more than three decades of independence, the Republic of Moldova had still not decided what it wanted to be: an active economic player or an arbitrator in economic processes. The party announced that, in the future Parliament, it would undertake to promote a new approach to state-owned property.

Green Light for Extradition

The Athens Court of Appeals in Greece examined the extradition request for former Democratic Party leader Vladimir Plahotniuc and gave the green light for his extradition. This hearing was not the final stage of the procedure, with the final decision to be made by the Greek Ministry of Justice.

Subsequently, the Prosecutor General’s Office announced that two other extradition requests submitted by the competent authorities of the Republic of Moldova were under consideration by the Greek Ministry of Justice and would follow the same procedure as the first request.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Plahotniuc sent an audio message from prison. He said that he intended to surrender to the authorities in Chișinău, but also that he wanted to be brought back to Moldova not only to prove his innocence, but also to resume his political activity.

Visits Hosted by Parliament

The Parliament’s Communications Directorate made public information showing that the 11th Parliament had hosted visits by 120 delegations from various countries. These included official visits by 20 speakers of parliament from different countries.

Between 2021 and 2025, the Republic of Moldova hosted, for the first time since establishing diplomatic relations approximately 30 years ago, visits by the speakers of the Austrian, French, Irish, and Slovenian parliaments.

Government Invitation

The Government invited citizens to attend an exhibition of institutions responsible for maintaining public order and public security, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 16, in Great National Assembly Square.

CEC Activities

The Central Electoral Commission announced that morning that it was the final day for submitting documents to register electoral blocs for nominating candidates for seats in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova in the parliamentary elections.

During the day, the CEC also received an application to register a list of 55 candidates from the political party Centrist Union of Moldova. At its meeting, the CEC also registered Olesea Stamate as an independent candidate for a seat in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.

“National Unification Bloc” Registered

The Central Electoral Commission registered the “National Unification Bloc” Electoral Bloc to participate in the parliamentary elections of September 28, 2025. It was formed by the National Reunification Party “ACASĂ” and the National Liberal Party. The bloc’s electoral symbol was also registered.

The bloc issued a statement saying that it had been subjected to a “hybrid attack” and had therefore been forced to change its name within a very short period after a complaint was filed with the CEC requesting that the bloc not be registered, on the grounds that the name “National Unity Bloc” had been a registered trademark since December 28, 2018.

Seventh Round Table

The “Moldovans” Alliance organized its seventh national round table. It was dedicated to the topic: “A Single Name for the Country, the Nation That Founded the State, and the Language — the Basis for the Development of the Moldovan State.”

Marina Tauber’s Request

MP Marina Tauber announced that she had submitted a preliminary request to Chișinău City Hall to organize an open-ended rally in Great National Assembly Square, but had not been invited to the City Hall meeting on the matter.

Activities of the “Victory” Bloc

Activists from the “Victory” Bloc again protested outside Prison No. 13 and called for the release of Evghenia Guțul, Svetlana Popan, Irina Volciuc, and Ilie Volciuc.

According to the bloc, police attempted to disperse the protest following a verbal “instruction” from the Ministry of Justice.

On the same day, the “Victory” Bloc reacted to the Ministry of Justice’s request concerning the dissolution of the parties within the bloc. “Victory” described the request as “illegal and unconstitutional.”

Ion Ceban’s Conference with Lawyers

Lawyer Irina Șerban and Ion Dragne, a lawyer with the “Dragne și Asociații” Civil Lawyers’ Association, stated at a press conference held together with Chișinău Mayor and leader of the National Alternative Movement Ion Ceban that the restriction imposed on the mayor by Romania was “a form of abuse of power.”

The lawyers also announced that they had submitted all the necessary documents to the Romanian court demonstrating that “there is illegality in this situation.”

Energy Ministry Consultations

The Ministry of Energy held public consultations on the Negotiating Position for Chapter 15 — Energy, as part of the process of accession to the European Union.

PAS Appeal

The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) called on citizens to donate money to the party’s election campaign after its campaign account was opened.

PSDE Announcement

The European Social Democratic Party (PSDE) announced the installation of tents in the capital, where party members were listening to “the voice of Chișinău.”

CEC Chair at “Diaspora InFormată”

Central Electoral Commission Chair Angela Caraman participated in the round table “Diaspora InFormată: Elections Without Manipulation,” an event dedicated to strengthening dialogue between state institutions, civil society, and diaspora communities.

The meeting focused on facilitating the exchange of best practices and promoting initiatives from the Republic of Moldova and the diaspora in the areas of civic education, combating disinformation, and ensuring the integrity of electoral processes.

Evghenia Guțul’s Announcement

The Bashkan of Gagauzia, Evghenia Guțul, announced that two international lawyers — Gonzalo Boye and William Julié — would join her defense team in the criminal case brought against her in the Republic of Moldova.

The two were expected to work together with her lawyers in Moldova, Natalia Bairam and Serghei Moraru.

UCM Request

During the day, the Central Electoral Commission received an application to register a list of 55 candidates for Parliament from the political party Centrist Union of Moldova (UCM).

In accordance with the procedure, the CEC preliminarily assigned the political party position No. 14 on the ballot.

PNM Complaint

The Moldovan National Party (PNM) submitted a complaint to the Central Electoral Commission requesting a decision to refer the matter to the Ministry of Justice so that it could file an action with the Chișinău Court of Appeal seeking the dissolution of the political party “Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe.”

The request was justified by “clear evidence attesting to the involvement of the criminal group led by Ilan Șor in the illegal financing and control of this party, despite the fact that the ‘Șor’ party was declared unconstitutional in 2023.”

SCP Decision

The Superior Council of Prosecutors (SCP) announced that, following the conclusion of the application stage of the public competition to select a candidate for the position of Prosecutor General, the files of candidates Alexandru Machidon and Victor Furtună were reviewed at that day’s meeting.

It was established that both candidates met the requirements for participation in the competition. The interview stage was scheduled for August 19.

Farewell Meeting

Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Roman Roșca met with Jānis Mažeiks, Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, on the occasion of the end of his mandate in Moldova.

Final Simulations at MAIA

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) began the final simulation sessions in preparation for the bilateral screening with the European Commission, scheduled for September 2025, concerning Chapter 11, “Agriculture and Rural Development,” and Chapter 12, “Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Policy.”

The session was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga, and Pavel Telička, former chief negotiator for the Czech Republic’s accession to the European Union.

Law Published

The Center for Strategic Communication and Countering Disinformation, known as “Patriot,” officially came under the direct authority of the Presidency.

The law providing for this change, previously approved by Parliament, was published in the Official Gazette.

Decision in Favor of the Government

Chișinău City Hall decided to give the Government priority in organizing the public event scheduled for August 16, 2025, following a public meeting of the municipal authorities.

The decision came amid a protest previously announced by Ilan Șor, which was also scheduled to take place on the same day and at the same location.
