The Executive Bureau of the Federation of Trade Unions of Education and Science held an extraordinary meeting to analyze the situation following recent media reports about a possible postponement of the salary increases provided for under Law No. 270. Following the meeting, the Federation announced a protest action outside the Government building, TRIBUNA reports.

Members of the Executive Bureau expressed concern that the implementation of the promised salary increases, announced in January 2026 and scheduled to take effect on September 1, 2026, remains uncertain. According to the Federation, this situation represents a serious breach of the Government’s commitments to employees in the Education and Research sectors and an act of disrespect toward the teaching community.

“Within the MEC–FSEȘ Commission for Consultation and Collective Negotiations, no compromise was reached. Several options were proposed, including covering the period during which the effects of the salary increases would not be felt through financial compensation of 3,000–4,000 lei, depending on the teaching workload and other criteria.

However, this temporary solution cannot replace the actual implementation of the salary increases starting September 1, 2026.

The Federation of Trade Unions of Education and Science calls on Prime Minister Vasile Tofan to honor the Government’s promises — namely, the salary increases promised for September 1, 2026. We demand a concrete, clear, and officially assumed timetable from the Government.

Despite the economic difficulties and budgetary constraints, postponement is not an appropriate solution. The teaching community expects concrete results, not false promises,” Federation representatives said.

The Executive Bureau subsequently adopted the following decisions:

• Wednesday, August 19, 2026 — the amended draft of Law No. 270 will be put to a vote at a Government meeting. On that day, FSEȘ will organize a trade union picket protest to put pressure on the Government.
• September 1, 2026 — if the commitments are not honored, nationwide protests will be launched throughout the month.
• October 1, 2026 — the possibility of declaring a State of Emergency in Education.
• October 5, 2026 — World Teachers’ Day — a nationwide trade union action will be organized, including a boycott of any official celebrations.

“We call for full mobilization among grassroots trade union organizations. How effectively we organize the action on August 19 will determine the scale and intensity of subsequent protests.

We are counting on solidarity and unity among trade union members. The dignity of work and respect for commitments to education are not negotiable,” the Federation said.
