Prime Minister: Sweden Is One of Moldova’s Most Important Bilateral Donors and a Long-Term Development Partner

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan met today with the Ambassador of Sweden to the Republic of Moldova, Petra Lärke. The officials discussed strengthening the Moldovan-Swedish partnership, Sweden’s support for Moldova’s modernization, and cooperation in the field of security, TRIBUNA reports.

The Head of Government thanked Sweden for its consistent support for the Republic of Moldova, emphasizing that Sweden is one of the country’s most important bilateral donors and a long-standing development partner through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan also highlighted the Republic of Moldova’s interest in expanding economic and trade relations with Sweden. The discussions focused on investment opportunities in the telecommunications and energy sectors.

An important topic of the meeting was the energy situation, including preparations for the 2026–2027 winter season. In 2025, Sweden provided significant support of approximately €9 million to Moldova’s Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund, which was used to provide compensation to vulnerable households.

The two sides agreed to continue projects aimed at strengthening the Republic of Moldova’s resilience and modernization, enhancing cooperation in the field of security, and advancing the country’s European integration path.
