Public consultations on the "Chișinău 2040 General Urban Plan (PUG)." Mayor: "We are planning Chișinău's future together with its people"

On Wednesday, Chișinău City Hall held a public consultation on the “Traffic and Transportation” and “Territorial Cooperation” background studies, prepared by the ARHICON Consortium as part of the process of updating the “Chișinău 2040 General Urban Plan (PUG Chișinău 2040),” reports TRIBUNA.

The event brought together representatives of local and central public authorities, suburban municipalities, experts, academia, professional organizations, civil society, and residents interested in the city’s development.

Mayor Ion Ceban welcomed the strong participation of citizens, specialists, and institutional representatives, emphasizing the importance of broad involvement in drafting one of the capital’s most significant strategic planning documents.

“We are planning Chișinău’s future together with the people who live, work, and invest in this city.”

Deputy Mayor Svetlana Dogotaru, responsible for urban development, outlined the stages of the PUG update process: conducting the background studies, preparing the municipality’s development concept, obtaining approval from the Chișinău Municipal Council, and drafting the final planning documentation.

“We are currently at the first stage, having completed the 12 background studies covering different aspects of city life. All of them have been published on the PUG project’s website, where they can be reviewed and proposals for improvement can be submitted.”

Representatives of the PUG drafting team presented the “Traffic and Transportation” background study, which examines the current state of mobility within the municipality, identifies key challenges, and outlines strategic directions for developing public transport, road infrastructure, alternative mobility, and connectivity between Chișinău and its suburbs.

They also presented the “Territorial Cooperation” background study, highlighting the need for an integrated approach to the development of Chișinău in cooperation with surrounding metropolitan localities, as well as the importance of coordinated planning in areas such as transportation, infrastructure, utilities, and public services.

During the discussion sessions, participants asked questions, shared observations, and submitted recommendations regarding both studies.

The public consultation on the “Traffic and Transportation” and “Territorial Cooperation” background studies will remain open until 19 August 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
