Members of Parliament from the National Alternative Movement (MAN) have concluded the first ordinary parliamentary session of 2026 after submitting several legislative initiatives, dozens of amendments to bills debated in Parliament, numerous parliamentary inquiries and official requests to state institutions, as well as holding hundreds of meetings with citizens across the country.

According to the party, MAN MPs focused both on drafting and improving legislation and on exercising parliamentary oversight, defending local self-government, and promoting issues raised by citizens and local public authorities.

During the session, MAN lawmakers introduced several legislative initiatives aimed at addressing specific problems and improving the legal framework. Among them is a draft law on the legal status of abandoned vehicles, which proposes clear rules for identifying, removing, and managing abandoned cars.

Another initiative concerns the repatriation of Moldovan citizens who die abroad and provides support measures for families facing significant expenses and complex procedures in such cases.

MAN deputies also submitted a draft decision calling for a consultative national referendum on the reform of local public administration and the transfer of educational institutions from the authority of local governments to the Ministry of Education. According to the party, the initiative seeks to allow citizens to express their views on reforms affecting local communities, local autonomy, and the administration of the education system.

The party stated that all of these initiatives are currently under consideration but that their advancement has been blocked by the parliamentary majority of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS).

During parliamentary debates, MAN deputies submitted more than 40 amendments covering areas such as education, healthcare, social protection, local public administration, public finance and property management, and the protection of local autonomy.

Through parliamentary inquiries, official requests, hearings, and other oversight mechanisms, MAN lawmakers sought explanations from the Government and state institutions regarding controversial decisions, the use of public resources, and issues raised by citizens.

The party also organized regular press conferences to highlight what it described as problems ignored by the governing authorities and to draw attention to alleged abuses, violations, and PAS decisions that it considers contrary to the public interest.

The MAN parliamentary team also held meetings with ambassadors, diplomats, and foreign officials, during which they discussed Moldova’s political and socio-economic situation, the reforms promoted by the government, respect for democratic principles, and the autonomy of local public administration.

Direct engagement with citizens was another key area of activity. According to MAN, its deputies held around 200 meetings with citizens in Chișinău and other localities across the country, with the issues raised subsequently reflected in parliamentary inquiries, amendments, and legislative initiatives.

The party stated that it will continue to use all available parliamentary instruments to defend citizens’ interests, demand greater transparency from the government, and propose practical solutions to public concerns.

Members of Parliament are scheduled to convene in an extraordinary session on 24 August to examine a number of legislative initiatives in their second reading.
