Following the Government’s recent decisions on electricity and water conservation, Chișinău City Hall has issued a series of clarifications to ensure the public is properly informed and to prevent misinformation in certain cases.

1. Decorative lighting on buildings managed by the City Hall and its affiliated entities will be switched off. The only exceptions are certain decorative elements in the city that consume very little electricity and are connected to the public street lighting system.
2. Public street lighting in the capital is essential for public safety. The municipality has implemented energy-saving measures whenever requested but cannot leave streets, parks, and residential courtyards without lighting, as doing so would compromise residents’ safety.
3. Centralized irrigation of public green spaces will be moved to nighttime hours, with the exception of three key locations where the irrigation schedule cannot be changed due to technical reasons: Mircea cel Bătrân Alley, Dacia Boulevard, and Cathedral Square. Suspending irrigation during the heatwave would amount to serious negligence, as these landscaped green areas were created through public investment. If the trees, shrubs, and lawns in these areas were allowed to dry out, it would take years for them to recover.
4. Manual irrigation of green spaces is carried out using water pumped daily from the lifeguard stations at Chișinău’s lakes.
5. The city’s fountains operate using water that is replenished only once a month. They were refilled at the beginning of this week and will not require additional water for the next month.
6. Street cleaning is carried out exclusively with technical water from the Chișinău Mine, which is not sourced from the Dniester River. This technical water must be pumped out daily regardless; otherwise, the mine would become flooded.
7. Sidewalks and park pathways are washed using technical water from the Chișinău Mine and water supplied by pumps at the lifeguard stations on the city’s lakes.

The City Hall also condemned what it described as deliberate attempts to spread misleading information during emergency situations.

“The municipality responds promptly in every such case. Chișinău is home to approximately one million people, and their safety remains our constant priority. Regarding the Government’s announcement that electricity outages may occur during certain hours, particularly at night, we urge residents to exercise caution while on the streets, in parks, on public transport, and when driving,” the City Hall stated.
