At the beginning of the Government meeting, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan stated that yesterday evening, during the critical period from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., the country faced an electricity deficit of approximately 130 MWh, which had to be covered by emergency power purchased at prices 2–3 times higher, according to TRIBUNA.

According to the Prime Minister, the entire region is experiencing an energy shortage due to drought conditions and the declining water level of the Danube River, which has affected the operation of major power plants, including the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant.

“To protect our shared resources and avoid excessive costs, it is essential that we use electricity more efficiently, especially during the evening peak hours. A simple action—turning off unnecessary lights or using high-power household appliances after 11:00 p.m.—can make a huge difference for the entire country.

I would like to thank everyone who has responded to the appeal over the past few days and chosen to use electricity more responsibly. I am confident that we are a wise and responsible nation. Let us take care of these vital resources together. Let’s use less today so that we will have enough tomorrow,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
