According to the warning issued by the Meteorological and Environmental Monitoring Authority, during 5–6 August 2026, extremely high temperatures are forecast across the territory of the Republic of Moldova, with maximum air temperatures reaching +35°C (Yellow Code) and +36…+38°C (Orange Code).
Updated information on weather conditions is available on the official website of the Meteorological and Environmental Monitoring Authority: meteo.md
In the context of the expected weather conditions, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) warns the public that high temperatures and drought increase the risk of wildfires, including fires affecting dry vegetation, agricultural fields, and forest areas.
To prevent fires, IGSU recommends:
- do not light open fires near forests, agricultural fields, or areas with dry vegetation;
- do not throw lit cigarettes onto fields, roads, or near combustible materials;
- do not burn plant waste or household waste during periods of extreme heat;
- avoid using open flames outdoors during windy conditions and extreme temperatures;
- ensure that agricultural machinery is equipped with basic firefighting equipment.
At the same time, rescuers warn citizens about the risk of drowning during periods of extreme temperatures. Swimming in unauthorized water bodies, unfamiliar locations, or while under the influence of alcohol can endanger lives.
For safe swimming, IGSU recommends:
- choose only designated and authorized swimming areas;
- do not leave children unattended near water;
- do not enter the water after consuming alcoholic beverages;
- avoid swimming immediately after prolonged exposure to the sun in order to prevent thermal shock;
- follow safety signs and rules installed in recreational areas.
The heatwave period also poses health risks. To prevent dangerous situations, IGSU urges the public to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially between 11:00 and 17:00, when solar radiation is at its strongest.
Special attention should be given to elderly people, children, individuals with health problems, and those working outdoors. Citizens are advised to drink sufficient fluids, wear light and loose-fitting clothing, and remain in cool spaces whenever possible.
In case of emergency, call 112.
