Prime Minister Vasile Tofan stated that ensuring water supply to citizens amid the severe drought and the low water level in the Novodnestrovsk reservoir must be a priority for everyone, whether at the level of the Government or local authorities, TRIBUNA reports.

“Several days ago, Chisinau City Hall requested assistance from the Government, specifically the provision of motor pumps, in order to carry out works aimed at increasing the capacity of the water intake station in Vadul lui Voda, which is managed by the municipality of Chisinau.

Ensuring water supply to citizens should not be a subject of debate, and I will not accept its politicization. I have ordered that motor pumps from the stocks of the Material Reserves Agency (Ministry of Internal Affairs) be made available to support the works carried out by Chisinau City Hall.

One motor pump, with a capacity of 1,200 m³/h, is already in Vadul lui Voda and was put into operation today.

Tomorrow, four additional high-capacity motor pumps will be provided. In total, the Government will supply five units with a combined capacity of 5,200 m³/h and the ability to transport water over long distances, so that Chisinau City Hall is fully prepared in the event of a crisis,” the official said.

The Prime Minister also said that he is calling on all parties involved, both institutions subordinated to the Government and those subordinated to Chisinau City Hall, to cooperate in identifying the best solutions so that, in the event of a crisis on the Dniester River, residents of Chisinau municipality are ensured an adequate water supply.
