Members of Parliament Ion Chicu and Liliana Iaconi, senior figures in the Party for the Development and Consolidation of Moldova (PDCM), on Wednesday presented a draft parliamentary resolution calling for the initiation of suspension proceedings against the President of the Republic of Moldova, TRIBUNA reports.

“Dear citizens, we, the duly elected representatives of the people of the Republic of Moldova in Parliament, note with concern the systematic violations of the Constitution and the country’s laws by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Ms. Maia Sandu.

Given our responsibility to the people of the Republic of Moldova, the Constitution, and the laws of the country, and exercising the rights and duties entrusted to Members of Parliament, we consider it necessary to initiate the procedure for suspending the President of the Republic of Moldova, in strict accordance with the Constitution and the legislation in force, due to the systematic nature of these serious violations,” Chicu said.

He added that, to this end, a draft parliamentary resolution had been prepared outlining what he described as multiple violations allegedly committed by President Maia Sandu during her time in office.

According to Chicu, the draft groups the alleged constitutional and legal violations into five main categories:

1. Usurpation of state power through undermining the rule of law, democracy, and the principle of separation of powers (Articles 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 of the Constitution);
2. Undermining national sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity (Articles 1, 3, and 77);
3. Violation of the President’s duty of political impartiality and neutrality, contrary to Constitutional Court rulings No. 32/2015 and No. 23/2020;
4. Violation of fundamental human rights and freedoms, including constitutional guarantees relating to equality, citizenship, access to justice, freedom of expression, the right to information, voting rights, and freedom of association;
5. Violations related to asset and interest declarations, conflicts of interest, legal restrictions, and the improper exercise of presidential powers, including pardons, the granting of citizenship, and coordination of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS).

Chicu said the draft resolution was prepared by PDCM legal experts with the active participation of MPs and lawyers from other parliamentary opposition parties.

According to the PDCM leader, the document will be open for public consultation for one month and revised based on proposals submitted by Moldovan citizens. It is expected to be signed by MPs and formally submitted for registration at the first parliamentary sitting of the 2026 autumn-winter session.
