Government: Romanian Language Day Concert Canceled, "Great National Dictation" to Go Ahead

The Government of the Republic of Moldova has issued clarifications to prevent speculation or misinterpretation regarding the events planned for Romanian Language Day, TRIBUNA reports.

Government spokesperson Dumitru Ciorici said that, in recent years, the government has traditionally marked Romanian Language Day by organizing the “Great National Dictation” event.

“Unlike previous years, this year the Ministry of Culture had planned a concert. Following discussions between Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and the new Minister of Culture, Dan Suruceanu, a compromise was reached: the concert was canceled in order to save public funds.

As a result, the government will continue the long-standing tradition and, as in previous years, will mark Romanian Language Day by holding the ‘Great National Dictation’,” Ciorici stated.
