TRIBUNA continues its project in which it presents political events that took place exactly one year ago. This time, we recall what happened on July 29, 2025.

President’s Decision

President Maia Sandu sent back to Parliament for reconsideration Law No. 242/2025 amending the Law on Advocacy. The head of state justified her decision not to promulgate the law by stating that it does not provide adequate solutions to systemic problems in the legal profession, particularly those related to integrity, transparency, meritocracy, and ensuring citizens’ effective access to justice. Several politicians reacted to the issue and congratulated lawyers, including Renato Usatîi, Olesea Stamate, Igor Munteanu, Andrei Năstase, and others.

Messages on Constitution Day

On the occasion of the Constitution Day of the Republic of Moldova, the country’s top officials — Maia Sandu, Igor Grosu, and Dorin Recean — delivered a joint congratulatory video message. Several politicians also issued messages marking the occasion, including Ion Ceban, Igor Dodon, Alexandr Stoianoglo, Irina Vlah, Andrei Năstase, and Renato Usatîi.

Igor Dodon’s Activities

The President of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM), Igor Dodon, held a meeting with Brian Brown, President of the International Organization for the Protection of the Family. The discussions focused on the situation in Moldova and the region.

Igor Dodon also chaired a meeting with the heads of PSRM territorial organizations in the northern part of the country, where preparations for the parliamentary elections were discussed.

Prime Minister’s Visit

Prime Minister Dorin Recean paid a working visit to Drochia district, where he met with representatives of local public authorities and decentralized services, visited several farms, inspected the G20 road, and visited the “Viorel Cantemir” Gymnasium.

PSDE Conference

At a press conference, the European Social Democratic Party (PSDE) raised concerns about what it described as the catastrophic state of Moldova’s agricultural sector.

Request Submitted to the CEC

The Central Electoral Commission received an application from potential independent parliamentary candidate Valentin Vinnicenco, who requested the issuance of signature collection lists to independently gather endorsements for his candidacy in the September 28, 2025 parliamentary elections.

Prosecutor General’s Office Clarification

The Prosecutor General’s Office rejected public speculation and announced that Vladimir Plahotniuc gave his consent for extradition only on July 29. At 1:00 PM, the Prosecutor’s Office was informed that Vladimir Plahotniuc’s Greek lawyer had sent a letter stating that his client agreed to extradition.

Ion Ceban’s Guests

Ion Ceban, the General Mayor of Chișinău, hosted and held discussions with several Members of the European Parliament, lawmakers, public figures, and journalists from various countries.

Request to Participate in Elections

The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova, the Republican Party “Heart of Moldova,” and the “Future of Moldova” Party submitted documents to the Central Electoral Commission to register the Patriotic Electoral Bloc of Socialists, Heart and Future of Moldova. The documents were submitted by the leaders of the three formations — Igor Dodon, Irina Vlah, and Vasile Tarlev — who said they were ready to consider the participation of other political parties in the bloc.

PCRM Decision

The Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM), during a meeting of its Central Committee, decided to join the electoral bloc that already included the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova, the Republican Party “Heart of Moldova,” and the “Future of Moldova” Party.

Intellect Group Ranking

The Intellect Group company published a ranking of the most active politicians, based on surveys, analysts’ assessments, and media visibility. President Maia Sandu topped the ranking by a significant margin with 30.9 points, followed by: Ion Ceban — 10 points; Renato Usatîi — 9.8 points; Alexandr Stoianoglo — 8.0 points; Igor Dodon — 7.4 points.

Andrei Năstase’s Announcement

Andrei Năstase, founder of the Dignity and Truth Platform, announced that he would take legal action against Dinu Plîngău, former leader of the DA Platform, whom he accused of defamation. In a prior complaint sent to Plîngău, Năstase criticized a Facebook post published on July 23, in which he was accused of negotiating with Ilan Șor in order to obtain the position of prime minister. Andrei Năstase also said he intended to file lawsuits against those who, according to him, acted as “mouthpieces of the government.”

CUB Statement

The Coalition for Unity and Welfare (CUB) issued a statement following criticism over the appearance of its leader Igor Munteanu on the same stage as Victoria Furtună, leader of the “Moldova Mare” Party, during the “Make Europe Great Again” conference in Chișinău. The party stated that Igor Munteanu promoted Moldova’s European integration message and that his participation in the event “cannot be interpreted as an association of the party with the views expressed by other participants.”
