Ion Ceban: It Hurts Me That They Want to Destroy the Only Thing They Haven't Touched in Chișinău — Our Schools

“It hurts me that they want to destroy the only thing they have not yet touched in Chișinău — our schools. The education reform they rushed through at the latest Government meeting is a reform that will dismantle the system and lacks clarity,” Chișinău Mayor Ion Ceban said, according to TRIBUNA.

The mayor argued that the authorities plan to expand the state bureaucracy by hiring new staff for more than 30 newly created agencies.

“What they want to create are more bureaucratic positions—not higher salaries for teachers, not better schools, and not improved conditions for children,” he said.

Ion Ceban also claimed that the Government is facing a financial shortfall, alleging that it has managed public resources so poorly that it will be approximately 6 billion lei short by September–October.

“Through the ‘Restart’ reform, the PAS government aims not only to take control of Chișinău’s schools but also to seize 400 million lei from the municipal budget to cover the central government’s financial deficit.

The money of the Chișinău municipality should remain in Chișinău and be invested in education, infrastructure, and public services—not used to cover the state budget deficit,” the mayor stated.
