Venice Commission rapporteurs review the draft Code on the Organization and Functioning of Parliament

A group of rapporteurs from the Venice Commission is conducting a fact-finding visit to the Republic of Moldova on July 16–17 as part of the preparation of an opinion on the draft Code on the Organization and Functioning of Parliament, TRIBUNA reports.

At Parliament, the rapporteurs are scheduled to meet with the authors of the draft code, members of the Legal Committee on Appointments and Immunities, members of the Committee on European Integration, as well as representatives of both the parliamentary majority and the opposition.

Their agenda also includes meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Justice, the Constitutional Court, the Bureau for European Integration, the Superior Council of Magistracy, the Superior Council of Prosecutors, and the Office of the Ombudsman. In addition, the rapporteurs will hold discussions with representatives of civil society, professional associations, and international partners.

The draft Code on the Organization and Functioning of Parliament was approved in its first reading in May. The document more clearly defines Parliament’s core functions and the institution’s role in the European integration process. It also regulates the organizational activities of the Standing Bureau, the work of the standing committees, and the functioning of Parliament in plenary session.
