Parliament to Convene on 21 July to Vote on the Tofan Government

Parliament will convene in plenary session on Tuesday, 21 July, to examine the Government’s Programme of Activity and vote on granting confidence to the new Cabinet of Ministers, headed by Vasile Tofan, including its proposed composition, TRIBUNA reports.

The plenary session is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.

Last week, President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu nominated Vasile Tofan as the candidate for the office of Prime Minister following consultations with parliamentary factions. This week, the prime minister-designate is holding consultations with representatives of professional associations from various sectors, civil society organizations, and parliamentary factions to finalize the Government’s Programme of Activity and the composition of the Cabinet.

Under Moldovan law, Parliament grants a vote of confidence to the Government by a majority vote of all elected members of Parliament. Following Parliament’s approval, the President of the Republic appoints the Government.

According to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, the Government is responsible for implementing the country’s domestic and foreign policy and for exercising the general administration of public affairs. In carrying out its duties, the executive is guided by the Programme of Activity approved by Parliament.
