Agriculture represents a vital sector for the national economy, which must be treated with maximum responsibility in the negotiations with Brussels. Serghei Ivanov, MP of the “Our Party” and chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Food Industry, currently on a visit to Brussels, emphasized the need for a strategic approach in the process of the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union, TRIBUNA reports.
“Agriculture is a very important field for the Republic of Moldova, especially in the context of integration into the European Union. At the moment of accession, it is crucial to negotiate carefully. If we go in with our eyes closed and do not focus on strengthening the farmer’s position and developing the sector as a whole, we risk integrating only at the legislative level, without real benefits for citizens,” Serghei Ivanov stated.
The MP also conveyed, through this European platform, a firm message to the current government in Chișinău:
“Agriculture must become an absolute priority on the European integration agenda. Sustained efforts are needed so that products and farmers from the Republic of Moldova reach a level of competitiveness equal to that of the member states of the European Union.”
Serghei Ivanov, together with the delegation composed of the Deputy Speakers of Parliament and the chairs of all standing committees of the Legislature, is on a visit to Brussels. The visit is organized following the recent signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and the European Parliament.
