Nikolai Ormanji has announced his resignation from the position of Acting Chairman of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia.
According to him, he did everything possible to organize and conduct the elections to the People’s Assembly, but at today’s session deputies failed to adopt the resolution developed jointly with the central authorities.
Ormanji’s resignation statement has been submitted to the protocol department. It is expected to be considered at the next session of the People’s Assembly.
Until then, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Assembly, Georgiy Leichu, will temporarily assume the duties. At the upcoming session, deputies must decide either to elect a new chairman or to formally assign the duties to Georgiy Leichu.
Ormanji did not stop at his resignation: citing legal opinions, he declared the necessity of holding new elections for the Bashkan of Gagauzia within 90 days. He emphasized that only the deputies of the People’s Assembly can make such a decision.
