The opening of chapter-by-chapter accession negotiations for the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine is expected to take place on 15 June, according to Politico, TRIBUNA reports.
Hungary has signaled that it will withdraw its long-standing opposition to Ukraine’s EU membership bid, allowing both Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to begin formal accession negotiations in the coming days, four diplomats told Politico.
According to the publication, “the opening of the first negotiating ‘cluster’ — a formal procedural step on the path to accession — is scheduled to take place during an intergovernmental conference in Luxembourg on 15 June,” as confirmed by three diplomats.
Politico also notes that Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova submitted their EU membership applications at the same time, meaning that Moldova’s accession process can advance only in parallel with Ukraine’s.
