President Maia Sandu met today with Romania’s Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, who is in Chișinău for an exchange of experience on local public administration. The discussions took place against the backdrop of the worsening regional security situation following the Russian drone strike on a residential building in Galați.
President Sandu firmly condemned the incident, calling it “a serious violation of Romanian airspace” and “another proof of the devastating effects of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine on the entire region.” Solidarity with Romania and the need to preserve regional peace were central to the meeting, with both leaders agreeing that “it is essential for the Republic of Moldova and Romania to continue strengthening their cooperation for peace and security.”
Beyond security concerns, the meeting also included an exchange of experience on modernizing public services through the effective use of European funds. As an EU member state that has already gone through this process, Romania represents a valuable reference point for Moldova in its path toward accession.
