The Republic of Moldova will introduce new models of passports and travel documents. The updated documents feature a modern format and advanced security elements, including biometric data and an electronic chip, providing a higher level of identity and data protection and reducing the risks of forgery and fraudulent use.
The Government approved the decision, which covers all categories of documents — ordinary, diplomatic and service passports, as well as travel documents issued to stateless persons, refugees and beneficiaries of humanitarian protection. The new models are aligned with current travel and verification requirements and comply with modern security standards.
Issuance of the new documents will begin gradually and will continue until 31 December 2026. Existing documents will remain valid until their expiration date, meaning citizens will not be required to replace them immediately.
The implementation of these changes does not involve additional costs from the state budget.
