Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu met in Chișinău with Séamus Boland, President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), who is on his first official foreign visit. Discussions focused on the current regional context, Moldova’s progress on the European path, and cooperation with the EESC.
The Prime Minister stressed that Moldova cannot afford to miss the current window of opportunity for EU accession, noting that the Government is working intensively to align with EU standards and improve citizens’ quality of life. Alongside accelerating EU integration, priorities include economic growth, justice reform, and strengthening peace and security.
The EESC President reiterated strong support for Moldova’s EU integration and expressed readiness to assist in areas such as labour and social protection.
An important topic was the strengthening of civil society’s role and youth engagement, including in the accession process. The Prime Minister underlined that the Government maintains an active dialogue with civil society representatives. Officials also discussed the regional security situation, the consequences of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the Transnistrian file, countering disinformation, and protecting the information space.
The European Economic and Social Committee is an EU advisory body representing employers’ organisations, workers, and other interest groups, serving as a bridge between EU institutions and European citizens.
